Fam. Cycadaceae
Imported from Australia in 1990. Together with a dozen genera belonging to the Stangeriacee and Zamiacee families, they constitute what remains today of a group of plants that appeared on Earth in the Permian (once very rich in genera and species), 230 million years ago: the order of Cycadales. This species is endemic to Australia and grows on soils that originate from the degradation of serpentine rocks and hence the specific epithet.
